Historic Old Town
Nafplio is a historical city of Greece as it has an ancient history and concerns the prehistoric, ancient, medieval and modern times. It was occupied by the Venetians. The malamidi and the bourtzi are their characteristic architectural elements.
However, it played a significant role during the years of the 1821 Revolution and the era of the Regency. Both Kapodistrias and Otto disembarked here. Kapodistrias was assassinated outside the Church of Saint Spyridon.
