2nd day: You can visit the archaeological museum. It is housed in an old stone building built by the Venetians and used as a place to store arms and ammunition.
The oldest exhibit of the museum is a complex of palaeolithic plates dating from 32000 BC to 21000 BC. There are also objects from the cave of Franchthi in Hermionida, pottery, jewellery, gems, weapons, tools, utensils of gold, silver, copper, alabaster, ivory, semi-precious stones and figurines made of obsidian, copper, stone and clay.
Epidaurus was considered to be the birthplace of Apollo's son Asclepius the healer and was also known for its sanctuary situated about 8 Km away from the town of Epidaurus.
The Asclepeion was the most celebrated healing center fo the classical world. To find out the right cure for their ailments, people spent a night in the enkoimeteria, a big sleeping hall. In their dreams the God would advise them what they had to do to be healthy again. There was also a guest house with 160 guestrooms. The ancient theatre was of unique symmetry and beauty. The theater has exceptional acoustics and can host 14000 spectators.
7th day: You can go shopping, buy some of the local products: wine, olive oil, herbs, dried oregano, saffron, mastic, pasteli, tea, olive soap and honey.
8th day: You can hire a boat to visit Bourtzi. The Venetians built the small fortress Bourtzi, originally part of the city's defences and thick chains ran from the castle to the mainland in order to prevent enemy ships from docking. Between 1865-1935 it was the executioner's residence. It later became a hotel/restaurant.
On the following days each year the public museums offer a free entrance, so you can avoid this cost. The first Sunday of each month. From 1/11 till 31/3. On 28/10. The last weekend of September. On 6/3, 18/4 and 18/5.
