Archeological Museum of Volos

Archeological museum of Volos

The museum is located by the seafront promenade of Volos inside the park of Anavros. The various collections are presented as follows.

Built in 1909 thanks to a contribution from Alexios Athanasakis, who was originally from the Pelion town of Portaria, the Archaeological Museum of Volos was established. The Archaeological Society's engineer, A. Angelidis, created the building's construction plan, and architect, I.P. Scout, carried out the actual construction.

The museum is situated inside Anavros Park, close to Volos' waterfront promenade. The need for the museum to expand was made urgent by a number of archeological discoveries from the surrounding region. In 2004, this long-standing requirement was finally met.
