Capital of the Prefecture of Evrytania, located in the center of the prefecture on the southwest side of Velouchi at an altitude of 950 meters.
5 kilometers outside of Karpenisi is the village of Koryschades, between the mountain peaks of Paleokastro, Lefkogianni, and Psilo Kotroni. Noteworthy are the stone mansions and the paved square with the restored building of the primary school, where in May 1944 the First National Assembly of the Mountain Government met. The school houses the National Resistance Museum.
3 kilometers to the south is another historical site, Kefalovryso. Drowned in green with plane trees and running water, as well as the wider area. Markos was killed in the battle of Kefalovryssos. Botsaris in August 1823. His Hadrian adorns the central square of Karpenisi.
South of Karpenisi is the hill of Ag. Dimitriou. The Proussou Monastery overlooks the Helidona and Kaliakouda mountains that join it. Point with the steep canyon in the background. The monastery was founded in the 9th or 12th century. And it experienced days of glory during the revolution of 1821. The militants found refuge here, and G. Karaiskakis was hosted here. On August 16, 1944, German troops set fire to a large part of the monastery.
